EP Review: Pardon Us/Spoilers Split EP - 15 March 2023

With a bit of tease this split from Pardon Us and Spoilers dropped towards end of November and I think I may have been one of the first if not the first paying customer to actually own a copy, even if I didn’t read the artwork properly when I did a one take review.

Side A – Pardon Us.

Pardon Us need no introduction here in Liverpool, featuring current and past members of Down and Outs, Good Grief and Pete Bentham and the Dinner ladies to name a few, they have been bringing their scouse blend of punk for a while now. Opening up with Coffee and Cartoons we get a really tight song where Morgans gritty vocals get complimented with the clean vocals from Will. Straight up punk song with some tight drumming by Gabby and that little bit of extra bass lines to add more to the song than just root notes. Second one is Spring Forward, Fall back. A bit more laidback song but still very much what you expect from Pardon Us. Lovely harmonies from all three and every single note is time to perfection with bringing the song to the front. Each member adds their own little flavour to the song and cause I am very biased the bass lines are just pure love to my ears.

Side B – Spoilers.

Hailing from the southern end of the country Kent, are Spoilers. First saw them I think back in 2017 and seen them a few more times since as well as being recipients of patches from me. Catchy fast skate punk is what you expect and they deliver. Skip to the End is straight of the bat a big song, great guitar combinations with the rhythm section. The verses are a but more easy going before the pre chorus really builds up the vibe and intensity. The drums really stand out with some lovely fills and riffs. Towards the end of the song we are treated to a bass solo! Next up is One more song and that intensity of the first song is pushed up to 12 with this fast one. Lovely drumming and bass playing get us to the verse and Dan’s clean vocals power through the lyrics towards the chorus. The lead guitarist gets to add some gritty leads in the bridge before the bass player doesn’t let us forget he can bloody play

All in all a great split of two really good bands and you wont be disappointed with the material as this is some of their best.

EP Review: The Shako self-titled EP - 20 March 2023

Formed by Tabby in 2019 on the Wirral, Merseyside, Shako are one of those bands with a catchy punk attitude and sound of first wave punk from the 70’s, melodic tunes with a deep sense of what’s happen
