Gig Review - Code Break, Haiku Waifu and The Last Vinci at Outpost Liverpool - Thursday 28 April 20

Code Break doing what they do best, a huge amount of noise from the four piece. Karl invades there audience wailing, Andy’s drums are amongst the sharpest (and heaviest hitting) around, Gareths Bass slinks then pounds and Garys guitar bounces between solid chunks and soaring hardcore melodies. Tonight seems them stride confidently as a band that have been allowed to play a fair few gigs recently and it shows as they have become more of a unit (not that they were ever loose) but its good to see them like this.

Haiku Waifu are a duo and we love duo’s here at Last Stop Sounds. These are louder than most 5 piece bands, the drums stand out and fill the gaps in the sound tremendously and the guitar slams around almost recklessly but yet in control. They have a great sense of humour too and the banter between songs wanders randomly but is always entertaining. ‘Comedy band, we were called a comedy band..’ they proclaim, yeah, they are funny but this is a band and about music not comedy for sure.

The Last Vinci are from Ireland, via Eastern Europe and Italy. They are on tour here and have a number of gigs all over the UK either done or to do. It's emo tinged metal with more than a slice of Stoner groove about it. They can all play excellently and they are locked in with each other in that telepathic way some bands have (Editor: Usually something to do with practice and playing gigs that). They do have a way with a melody though and their songs lift and they don’t shut away from personal or emotional subjects lyrically.
