Gig Review: Museum of Backward Hats, Kath and the Kicks and Alice is Sleeping at Outpost - 24/06/22

Yet another great night of musical reverie. Three great bands putting together sets to blow ya socks off. Kicking off the evening with well known local outfit, Museum of Backwards Hats. This is one of those bands where it is sometimes difficult to label in any particular genre, rock, folk, punk or maybe just all of the above. Heavy drum and bass back line, complimented by searing guitar work, backing up solid vocals. Lyrically clever, observations of local life and issues, keeping us alert of how we must make changes, not only for ourselves, but indeed others who may be less fortunate. Special shout out to Terry Foster for stepping in nicely on bass with his first gig with the band.

Kath and the Kicks follow swiftly on, those of you who have seen these will know that no matter the crowd size, they put in 110% every time, pure guitar and vocal energy from Kath, never waning for the whole set, bass and drums thick and fast throughout. This is punk rock at its finest, without doubt, one my favourite bands, musically and visually. Stunning set with the tightest of musicians anywhere on the scene. Never tire of seeing these, and will see them soon again.

Finally, a band I’d not seen or heard before, based in London, Alice is Sleeping, dark, deep, heavy rock, with obvious gothic undertones, astonishing guitar work. Vocals working there way into ya rib cage and crushing ya heart. Tempo changes throughout, on a non-stop roller coaster of fine tunes and superb musicianship. One those bands that will stick in your memory for a long time, having an uncanny ability to hold your attention during the whole set with some haunting vocals hammering along with lead guitar.

Again, another top night at The Outpost, usual thanks to Ian the sound wizard, bar staff, me !!!! (Editor: Such modesty) and of course to the punters for showing support of live music.

EP Review: The Shako self-titled EP - 20 March 2023

Formed by Tabby in 2019 on the Wirral, Merseyside, Shako are one of those bands with a catchy punk attitude and sound of first wave punk from the 70’s, melodic tunes with a deep sense of what’s happen
