Hummer, Crocodile God and Broken 3 Ways Outpost Liverpool - Live Review - 28 August 2021

After a 2-year nightmare of not seeing live music at The Outpost, it was finally time to get down there and watch 3 truly great bands, local and not so local.

Outpost, renamed (Editor: and a few other changes such as managers/licensees etc.) from Maguires Pizza Bar, is the epitome of what in my opinion is the perfect venue. Small, intimate, run by people who love music, perfect bar set up, no waiting half an hour to get served, and the friendliest atmosphere you can imagine. Arriving just on time by train, we enter to a throng of smiling faces, open arms, new faces and old.

After the obligatory purchase of a pint, we head off to the back room where the magic will soon begin. Going thru the door, Will, Joe and Cainey of Warrington based band Hummer are doing a quick warm up, then quickly on to their set. Seen these lads a few times, and never fail to get the crowd going. Massive bass line, incredible playing, complimented superbly by lead and of course drums. The lads searing fast, in ya face punk blast out tune after tune, major assault on ya diaphragm and ears. What seems like only 5 minutes, the lads clear up and make way for sommat quite special.

Crocodile God, one of those bands that have been around for years, yet I’ve never seen. In a nutshell, this is a fast band, very fast. Mark belting out the vocals at breakneck speed, Ravo playing bass like the devil, not seen anything like him since 2 Sick Monkeys, stunning performance, and of course Liam keeping the beat on drums in perfect time. Wow, what a great sound, a band I will deffo make time for again. Cheers lads.

Finally, one of my favourite bands ever, Broken 3 Ways, another truly superb set from the ska punk lads, explosive brass section, thumping bass line supported exquisitely by Chris on lead guitar. For those who have seen this band, you know just how good they are, for those who haven’t, all I can say is, go see em. Exquisitely catchy ska, powerful, energetic, loud, amazing vocals, with an all-round perfect sound. As I have said in previous reviews (sommat I will never tire of doing) B3W is quite frankly on of the best bands on the circuit, saying that takes absolutely nothing away from other bands on bill, perhaps I’m being biased, maybe not.

As usual, Outpost get it absolutely spot on, 3 exceptional bands, fantastic venue, and the best of people.

Cheers n Beers (ciders) punks!

EP Review: The Shako self-titled EP - 20 March 2023

Formed by Tabby in 2019 on the Wirral, Merseyside, Shako are one of those bands with a catchy punk attitude and sound of first wave punk from the 70’s, melodic tunes with a deep sense of what’s happen
