For those who don’t know this band, I suggest you check em out. I’ve seen em a few times, one time was at the MIND gig at The Bear pub in Northampton a few years back, a gig to raise funds for and give credence for mental health. What a day that was, roasting hot in the courtyard at the back, so hot ya could hear the Goths sizzling in the sun.
The band started way back in 2013 down in Milton Keynes, heavily influenced by the likes of The Bouncing Souls and SLF, which is clear from the rasping guitar work. Lyrically exceptionally good, with very catchy singalong tunes. One of those bands ya really could listen to all day. This song was recorded and produced by Si Turner, bass player, with sax and trumpet by Chris and Dave Pape, and with Scott the drummer on guitar !! a great mash up of talented musicians indeed.
Anyway, a year or so ago, Jon the singer, suffered a massive stroke. As per the press release, it was touch and go for some time, high blood pressure nearly taking its toll, let alone the stroke itself. After an almost miraculous recovery from the stroke, Jon is still on the road to full fitness, a credit to him, his family, friends and of course the medical staff.
Turn up the Stereo, is a song of hope. After a long period of stagnancy in the world due to the pandemic, pretty much everyone has been affected, those who have lost loved ones, friends, businesses losing out and of course our amazing music scene. The bands, sound engineers, back stage staff, everyone involved in music, from the bands, to the punters, to the bar staff and so on. The song itself is and uplifting tune, nice brass to crank up the tempo at the start, to blistering guitar work. Al complimented by great vocals and harmonies from the band.
A real foot tapping track to raise the spirits of what hopefully is a road to full recovery, not only for Jon, but for the scene and society in general. Its bands and tracks like this that really do mean sommat to many if not all of us. Get it on the turntable and “Turn up the Stereo”.
