Little Triggers - EBGBs Liverpool - 23 July 2021

Little Triggers are not hard to place, pure rock n roll. The duo we see now is the remnants of a four piece band but it’d be hard to notice the difference as the drums and guitar cover so much ground there is little to distinguish them from a full lineup.

What you get tonight at EBGBs is a hardened machine that is pure rock n roll, Led Zep influences accented by the spot on singing from front man and guitarist and reinforced totally by drums that push everything onwards at breakneck pace.

There’s far more. They cover ground that has me thinking of Kyuss (others near me quote Josh Hommes later works in Queens of the Stone Age but its a rock n roll act that is fuzzed up and tight and has an MC5 feel to it and dips into a ballad that has a 70s glam rock tone to it (if Showaddywaddy could play this fast)! They move forward constantly, a definite large arena band that make the most of the small stage in EBGBs and their rock is as pristine as the singers sharply ironed flared jeans and big lapelled brightly coloured shirt.

But fuck, these guys can play, its 100 mph all the way, guitar jumping from chord to chord interspersed with bursts of excellent lead playing, whilst the singer plays these and delivers complex vocals, faster than my eyes and ears can keep up. The appreciative crowd seem to know all the words and old singles and new material are throw in and then discarded as they move to higher musical planes. The musicianship they display is matched by a charismatic display from main vocals and guitar complete with frequent high kicks, constantly evolving rhythms and no let up in their delivery.
