I’d seen this guy, playing pop punk type stuff solo with just an acoustic guitar, and singing his heart out, a great voice, great songs and honest and warm stage manner. Always thought how good would he sound in a full band situation, electric guitars, drums big vocals. Now I get to find out.
Neverland which drops on the 04 December 2020 shows what an amped up Passionflower sounds like and its good. Its a full wall of pop punk noise, soaring, almost emo guitars, melodies churning out constantly and those vocals are just sweet. Enough melodies and tunes abound in a mere four and bit minutes to satisfy most bands for a whole album. Its fast - though not thrashy - the vocal harmonies soar and the guitars keep it all running forward. It feels like the kitchen sink has been thrown at this one in terms of how many musical ideas it runs through.
The song itself covers serious matters though, depression, suicide, loneliness, subjects that our current Covid predicament have brought to the fore. Passionflower handles these with intelligence and maturity as well as the obvious passion. In this song, bad thoughts are turned into relatable ideas and are made all the more faceable.
Yeah, we liked this one.
