Our Mancunian psych friends (we’ve put them on in Manchester because we love them), Little illusion Machine have a new single and asked us to give it a spin and let them know what we thought of it.
They’ve been described as ‘Gloomy guitar laden Indie Pysch Rock that shimmers in the dark’ and this single has all that in spades. The darkness is there in the sound but it does indeed shimmer. A cool almost understated riff starts it all off, clean Morricone sounding single notes giving an overall feel to the song then building up with still understated shimmers (natch) of heavier guitars that map out a descent into the canyons of musical emotion.
Its catchy and hook laden and bears repeated plays. A great three minutes or so of dark psych that increases in power all the way through. One of our favourite live bands with their almost 60s sounding 13th Floor vibe but this is an updated sound, fresher but still deep and moving with its sonic angst. Beautiful, moving, deep.
Recorded it at Noise Boy Studio in Salford with engineer Chris Taylor in 2021.
