Single Review: That Pony Remark by Good Grief - 10 February 2022

A few years bank Good Grief were somewhat tipped for greater things, sadly they never achieved their potential but thankfully they are back together (did they ever actually split up?) and have some new material released (this single), an album coming out in Early March (Shake Your Faith - see band camp link below) and some gigs lined up.

So what’s it like this single. Melodically its extremely tuneful with heavier parts accompanied by insistent tunes that stick in your mind. There’s many variations of many melodies that its sometimes hard to keep up with changes. The chorus is musically uplifting and the band know how to pace things and take it all down when required before thumping back in with a classy pop-punk chorus outro. Lyrically it is down beat, the conflict between the pleasant melodies and lines like ‘we can be free’ drew my attention and made me listen harder.

Its a great track, it keeps moving along and drags the listener with it, well played and really well produced.

A great 3 minutes or so and augurs well for the album when its shipped. I’d have said at some point in this review Husker Du but as they say on their web pages, Husker Don’t, I won’t…

O4 March 2022 @ The Talleyrand Manchester with Swansea Sound
