Slowride – Forever In My Head - Single Review - 11 March 2021

Woe to you, the Gods of social media! For we have discovered a band called Slowride and their new single ‘Forever in My Head’. It has been a while since we reviewed something like this but we at Last Stop are going to give it a go.

There aren’t many songs that ooze ‘cool’ in just a few nanoseconds, but this track is certainly one of few songs. Vocalist Ali Epstone is a big part of this. His vocals incorporate the very best of the past two decades of indie. At times, he gives us he sounds like Tom DeLonge (at his best) and Rivers Cuomo at his coolest. But it’s not just the vocals, the actually gives off cool.

This song exudes slickness thanks to its staccato like guitar and its sharp spacious snare hits. The song contains the world’s most luxurious synth-bass line known to humanity; a bassline that caramelises over the ‘indie/funk’ groove rhythm provided by Tomas Oliver Moore.

With summer on the horizon and the beginning of the end of lockdown, we may just see some positivity enter into our reality. ‘Forever in My Head’ may be the anthem for this season. It is an incredibly optimistic piece of pop sprinkled with shades of post-noughties indie. Slowride may have just revealed themselves as potential successors to the pop-rock crown proprietors, namely Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) and boys from 1975.

Without a doubt one of the coolest emo/indie tracks out there. A great song that brings in the best qualities of emo/pop and indie.
