Startripper - MMX Review - 27 November 2020

What do you get when you mix Chester based luminaries such as DJ and Beatmaster Dan Schott (currently broadcasting with Circle 8 Radio) with psychedelic luminary and ace guitar slinger Vince Cory. You get the duo Startripper.

This latest release is a psych-prog ray of sunshine. Simple in concept but the two players bouncing off each other to create a multi layered heavy psych deep half hour of spaced out and blissful sounds.

‘Rise’ hits off with a great guitar hook on top of evolving rhythmic stabs and kept together through its eight minutes with many layers of keys. ‘New Big City’ explores similar ground and with a Hawkwind Levitation era feel to it.

‘Snow Grind’ is in motorik territory, its relentless and constant moving without moving rhythm keeping it sounding fresh and feet even start to tap. ‘Lion Star Gate’ pulses into space, gentle listen with head wrapped in headphones and darkness, chill and relax as warm sounds pulse around your skull.

Startripper, does what it says on the cover with Dans constantly shifting rhythms and Vince’s ever creative and melodic guitar riffing. This is music I keep returning to. Can’t say better than that. Find a half hour to yourself and relax in the cosmos. One of our psych favourites. Available on Neon Krishna Records.
